FIRST VISIT

Lingual Orthodontics for Adults

If you are interested in an orthodontic consultation, you can book a no-obligation first visit at our dental practice. Together we assess the problems and your needs, giving you all the main information about the treatments and answering any doubts and/or questions. We check your oral and dental health as well as the position of the jaws. Once the visit has been carried out, we go on to propose the treatment best suited to your case, weighing up the benefits against the duration, costs and risks of treatment. Before starting treatment it is necessary to carry out an accurate orthodontic diagnosis, fully clarifying every aspect of treatment. Computerised cephalometric diagnosis allows us to obtain an accurate reproduction of the expected change once treatment is complete.

DIAGNOSIS

Before starting any treatment, a complete diagnosis should be made; we obtain the data to be analysed from X-rays.

A panoramic X-ray and a lateral cephalometric X-ray – on which a digital cephalometric tracing can be performed;

  • facial and intraoral photographs and
  • impressions of the dental arches for plaster models. The radiographic analyses are obtained with ultra-modern low-radiation equipment. Together, these elements allow us to create a treatment plan tailored to your case, which will be presented to you at a later appointment with all the treatment options for correcting misaligned teeth.

With high-performance software we create a real-time photo that simulates how your face will look at the end of orthodontic treatment.

TREATMENT

Orthodontic treatment for adults – the position of the teeth is corrected with the help of fixed braces. The duration of treatment depends on the initial degree of malocclusion and crowding of the teeth. Minor corrections happen more quickly, while more significant ones require more time. During check-up appointments we assess the progress of treatment together.

ORTHODONTICS IN ADULTHOOD

It is never too late to start orthodontic treatment!

More and more adult patients are choosing orthodontic treatment: corrections can be made at any age, from both a functional and an aesthetic point of view.

Depending on the degree of misalignment of the teeth and jaws, and without setting aside your aesthetic needs, we present the different types of treatment suited to your problem.

PRE-PROSTHETIC ORTHODONTICS

Pre-treatment with fixed orthodontic braces can be extremely useful before fitting a prosthesis: crowns, bridges, implants.

In preparation for subsequent restoration, orthodontic pre-treatment may be essential in certain cases: for example, teeth in the wrong position can be straightened with orthodontic treatment, or spaces can be widened or reduced to incorporate the prostheses in the best possible way.

LONG-TERM MAINTENANCE – ORTHODONTIC RETENTION

To keep the beautiful smile achieved with orthodontic treatment for life, it is important to know that the teeth must be maintained with permanent retention.

Regardless of the type of orthodontic treatment carried out, fixed or Invisalign, retention is mandatory because the teeth tend to return to their original position.

Types of retention used to keep the result of treatment stable

Rigid clear retainers or removable retention appliances:

  • They are made of clear plastic
  • They fit the shape of the teeth perfectly
  • Regular check-ups (every 6 months) are recommended to make sure the retainer shows no breakage, deformation, fractures or cuts.

Fixed retainer wires, permanent – these are placed and fixed on the inside of the front teeth, are completely invisible from the outside and never interfere with speech or chewing.
